05:02 AM on day of Awakening in week 2 of the Bear's starfall in the year of 1053.
I awoke in the hull of Blackplaugues ship to a loud wooden thud. I heard the ocean waves, seagulls chirping, and hammers striking metal. We've arrived! I thought to myself as I ran to the deck of the 60 foot Caravel. Just as I had hoped, we finally made it to the island of Xanadu! I was told by one of the deckhands that we were docked in the harbor of a popular trading town called GlassHollow.
Excited to start my new life on this peaceful island I quickly thanked Blackplauge for allowing me on his ship and told him I would one day repay the favor. I shook hands with everyone aboard the ship and headed down the ships walkway and out onto the warm stone path leading to the town center.
I was amazed by the amount of people in this town, I had never seen anything like it. Trading stalls were set up all over the harbor, selling everything from Food to weapons to clothing. One particular trader stood out. His cuts of meat were the finest I had ever seen and his fruits were twice the size of the fruits I found in the wild back on the island of Chaos. I realized I don't even have a single copper coin to spend, At this point I am starting to feel the stomach pains from lack of food and seeing delicious meats and fruits made the pain even worse. There were so many things I wanted, the cold feeling of greed filled my entire mind and body. For a moment I considered stealing something off of the merchants table. I couldn't believe myself! How could I even consider taking someone else's property? That's not like me, I just hope my past doesn't change my future..
I walked away from the Trading stall empty handed, Thirsty, I went over to the edge of the harbor to drink from the ocean water, Very salty. This reminded me I have made it to Xanadu but the real struggle has just begun I realized I needed to find a place to sleep for the night so I set off down the beach hoping to find a spot close enough to town to be safe from animals but far enough that no one would see me sleeping out in the woods.
Just as I started walking I found a fresh corpse from a horse. As I examined it I found that someone had already skinned and harvested the horse but just left it all in a pile next to the corpse, who would do this? dismember a horse and just leave it to rot? The thought was sickening to me but I think I can make use of the hide and some of the organs. I put all the items in my sack and cut out as much meat as I could from the corpse. I guess i'm having horseburgers for dinner tonight!
As I continue to walk down the harbor I find an adorable little aged wild cat and approach him. He instantly attacked me, clawing at my legs and charging at me. Bleeding, I ran in horror. I passed by a town guard who quickly jumped into action and killed the cat in just a few swings of his sword. I almost felt bad for the little thing but he did attack me..
While thinking about what just happened I continued down the walkway of the seemingly endless harbor, finally I see a metal gate and the town wall. This must be the way out of town, past the wall I see a very ominous looking tower surrounded by a thick forest of Linden trees.
Walking out of the town I come to a path, I can either go left or right. To the left, up the road, I see the corpse of an old huge spider, reminiscent of the giant spiders I had seen in Chaos. I chose to go left since I knew there was more ocean that way and I wanted to camp by the water for the night, also I wanted to harvest the spiders useful organs. I walk up to the massive furry spider corpse just to find that the organs had been already harvested. Undaunted I headed up the road passing a couple beautiful houses. I also noticed a few signs pointing to the direction of mines and tar pits.
Down the road I finally found myself away from towns and buildings. I was walking along a cobblestone road, to the right of me; a giant mountain. To the left; nothing but open ocean. I was far enough from town to camp for the night but there isn't many trees for cover so I continued down the path. After another hour of walking I came to the end of the road, something I least expected. The road could not go any farther due to the mountain extruding farther into the ocean. There was no safe path. I had reached a dead end.
Exhausted, I decided to set up camp even though it was not a preferred spot. No trees for cover and no clear resources nearby. I pulled my tent out of my bag and started to set up. Just then, from behind me, I hear a blood curdling scream "HELP!!!" I quickly turn around and see a man being attacked by a huge aged spider. I yell "RUN!!" and the man starts running toward me with the enormous spider in pursuit. I yell "No! don't bring it over here, Jump in the water! The spider can't get you there!" Just as I get the last word out the spider comes from over a mound and charges at me. I run towards the water myself and dive in just before the creature could lunge at me. From the water I look around for the man that was being attacked. I didn't see him anywhere.
I waded in the water for about 10 minutes until I could tell the spider had lost interest in me. I decided to climb back up on the shore and finish setting up my tent. As soon as I pitched the tent I laid down inside, feeling safe, even though I knew the world outside the tent was dangerous and unpredictable. As I laid there, tired, hungry, and thirsty thinking about my first day in Xanadu I drifted off to sleep.
